The Client: A Top-Ten Global Insurance Company

The Challenge: To develop an enterprise intelligence solution facilitating risk evaluation at address level (RAG), live accumulations reporting, delivered in an easy to use dashboard driven hosted environment

The Solution: Perilfinder – hosted in Amazon AWS

  • Client’s Requirement

    The client wanted to be able to accurately assess property risk. They required this functionality at both point-of-sale and in back office underwriting processes. Every address entered in the system needed sub-second scoring against multiple hazards including flood, burglary, storm and subsidence. The client also required a facility to generate accumulation reporting to calculate the impact of new business on their existing book. The client wanted an easy to use, customisable solution, with a very high quality address matching engine and an easy dashboard interface. Ideally the system should be hosted for maximum availability and easy maintenance.
  • Our Approach

    Gamma came through a RFP process as the favoured solution with a custom Perilfinder© solution hosted in Amazon AWS and built on Pitney Bowes Spectrum platform. The final solution offered all of the capabilities that the client required and a flexibility to modify and build on the reporting tools provided. The JBA Flood Model was selected as the principal flood risk data. It was an easy integration into their existing network and offer outstanding address matching in terms of accuracy and speed. The solution was successfully rolled out in two countries and its design will facilitate the easy inclusion of additional territories, if required.

The Client: A Major Grocery Retailer

The Challenge: To improve redemption rates and customer retention on a direct mail campaign

The Solution: Spatial Loyalty Card Analysis and Targeted List Provision

  • Client’s Requirement

    The client required a spatial analysis of sales data derived from loyalty card information. This was to be carried out at store level so that they could make location intelligent decisions to create specifically targeted marketing campaigns. The clients wanted a list of target addresses that were likely to respond favourably to a voucher offer and remain regular customers of the store after the promotion.
  • Our Approach

    To conduct any spatial analysis for our client, the first step was to append coordinates to their store and customer data. After that, the client’s records were analysed in a mapping system against a background of digital maps. Trends, spending patterns and catchment groups could then be explored, identified and analysed.  Based on an assessment of the location patterns, we were able to identify the neighbourhoods that would most likely yield good results from a direct mailing campaign. The resulting target list was 60% lower in numbers than previous “scattergun” untargeted campaigns. The redemption rates were considerably higher than before and the clients’ customer acquisition costs were very favourable.

Store Network Planning – Case Study

The Client: A franchise supermarket and convenience store operator

The Challenge: To assess the impact of a new store opening on existing franchisees

The Solution: Market Analysis using Location Intelligence Tools

  • Client’s Requirement

    The client had asked us to investigate the likely impact of it opening a new store on several of its nearby existing stores.

    The client was also looking to estimate the predicted performance of the new store and to identify where it should look to target new business in the area.

  • Our Approach

    The client gave us loyalty data for shoppers in its existing stores with a full address and spending information. These addresses were cleaned and geocoded. This provided insight into the trading areas and penetration patterns for the existing stores. Based on this analysis, we were able to estimate the impact of the new stores modelled trading area on existing franchisee revenue.

    The reports produced demonstrated the level of cannibalisation that would take place in with a new store opening and helped the franchise operator in assessing any compensation that may have to be paid for doing so. It also gave them a clear idea of the potential of the new store location and gave them a mandate for their marketing exercises in the area going forward.

The Client: A major European Financial Institution based in Ireland

The Challenge: The client wished to evaluate its current branch network and devise a rational strategy for optimisation including development and closure. Market opportunities and key business and demographic trends were critical in this design

The Solution: Through identifying gaps and opportunities in the clients’ network, Gamma created a branch development/refurbishment strategy that was logical, unbiased and based on the best market data. It was successfully implemented by the client

  • Client’s Requirement

    The client wished to evaluate its current branch network and devise a rational strategy for optimisation including development and closure. Market opportunities and key business and demographic trends were critical in this design.

    To conduct any spatial analysis, the client required geocoding of their customer data. Following on from the geocoding process, the client was looking for an assessment of the organisation’s existing network and its performance. Catchment area profiles were to be provided for each branch. These profiles are customisable depending on any client’s needs, but in this case included:

    • Existing network and competitor locations
    • Demographic profiles (e.g. social class)
    • Population growth
    • Affluence profile
    • Penetration Analysis
    • Daytime population
    • Supplier/Partner locations
    • Future residential and commercial development
  • Our Approach

    Gamma geocoded the client’s customer data using Autoaddress© and integrated it with proprietary spatial data using our custom LI software. From the resulting model, we were able to identify and score gaps in the current branch networks and recommend new locations for consideration.

    The number and spread of client’s outlets was overlaid on a background of digital maps, trends, patterns and catchment groups along with performance indicators (e.g. turnover) for each site. This resulted in a scientific evaluation of the existing network’s ability to satisfy current and likely future demand for services. Finally, Gamma completed a micro-level analysis of those areas where a resource gap had appeared, or where greater efficiencies and savings could be achieved.

    The output included maps, statistics and slide-decks outlining the optimal strategy and the business case data behind the approach.

Hosted Mapping Solutions – Case Study

The Client: Teagasc – Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority

The Challenge: To develop a  web-based mapping solution that will support the REPS applications handled by 100 offices nationwide

The Solution: A fully customised and hosted web based mapping system

  • Client’s Requirement

    Teagasc is a semi-state organisation that provides integrated research, advisory and training services for the agriculture and food industry in Ireland. The company went to tender to procure a web-based mapping solution to support the REPS applications handled by their 100 offices nationwide. The system should provide a full digitising suite for capturing field boundaries and custom symbols along with reporting functionality and map navigation tools. The system was to be based on the OS 1:1,000 map series and land parcel data provided by the Dept. of Agriculture.
  • Our Approach

    Gamma’s development arm, Bizmaps proposed a fully customised and hosted web based mapping system based on the Bizmaps Mapserver© mapping engine. The proprietary solution proposed was successful in the tender process especially as it was lowest priced bid by a considerable level. The solution developed provides maps and GIS tools to the network of Teagasc consultants on a standard internet browser. It is currently central to the REPs application process.
