Who knew this football pitch would collapse? Perilfinder™ did

During the night of Sunday 23rd September, a sinkhole opened up on the lands of Magheraclone GAA Club near Carrickmacross in County Monaghan.

Pictures from @BorderRegionTV clearly show deep crevasses running across the club’s grounds.

Luckily nobody was injured; however, local roads and schools are closed as a result.

An immediate question is how susceptible the area is to subsidence. Perilfinder contains a Subsidence Risk model, and entering the GAA Club’s Eircode, A81 H573 immediately brings up a map showing that the club and surrounding grounds are in the area that could have a High Risk of subsidence.
