14 Dec Eircode Q3 2017 Housing Supply Update
We have run queries against the Eircode Address Database (Quarter 3 2017) to establish the increase in total residential units in Ireland in 2017. The figures are affected by new construction but also by the change of building use, e.g. a building changing from a number of flats to a single residence or vice versa.
To arrive at our figure we calculated the increase in residential addresses at the end of Q3 2017 compared to the end of 2016, excluding all properties marked as under construction.
There was an increase of 4,642 residential addresses between July and September. This brings the year-to-date increase in residential units for 2017 to 11,675, with a further 7,074 under construction. This compares with figures of 10,410 and 5,226 for the equivalent period in 2016, an increase of 12% in new residential units with a 35% increase in units under construction. The breakdown by County is given in the table below:
|COUNTY||Increase to Q317||% Change||Under Construction||% Change|
The stand-out figures are the 121% increase in Dublin compared to the same period in 2016 and the 227% increase for Galway.
Caveats apply with this data which may be affected by An Post GeoDirectory update schedules.
